New Delhi, August 10: The Central Government has appointed Finance Secretary TV Somanathan as Cabinet Secretary for 2 years from August 30. He will replace 1982 batch IAS officer Rajiv Gauba.
An official statement issued by the government on Saturday said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of TV Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as Special Officer in the Cabinet Secretariat, which will be effective from the date of assuming charge till he assumes the charge of Cabinet Secretary.TV Somanathan, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1987 batch of Tamil Nadu cadre, was appointed Finance Secretary in April 2021.
Earlier, Somanathan, who was Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) between 2015 and 2017, was overseeing the implementation of economic policies in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
