Two road mishaps in Jaunpur, 9 people died, 29 injured

Jaunpur, 20 February: So far nine people have died and 29 people have been injured in road accidents at two places in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh late on Wednesday night. All these devotees were going to visit Kashi Vishwanath, Varanasi and Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya, police said.

According to the police, the first incident happened late on Wednesday night around 1.30 am. An unknown vehicle hit a Tata Sumo going from Jaunpur to Sultanpur. Five out of 11 passengers died in this accident. The deceased include three women, one man and a minor child. Two of them have been identified as Kanti Devi (60) and Nitesh Kumar (20), residents of Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Three others are being identified. The remaining six injured have been admitted to the District Hospital Jaunpur.

The second accident happened at 3 o’clock in the night, where a bus rammed into a truck trailer from behind. Bus driver Monu Singh and two of his family members and another person died in the accident.

A total of 29 people were injured in both the vehicles. The injured are Kanti Devi, Nitesh Kumar, driver Monu Singh, two family members of the driver, Radha Devi, Geetanjali, Tara Devi, Kamlesh, Mansa, Harishchandra, Meena Devi, Babli, Subhash, Dinesh, Ranjit, Dinesh Kumar Choubey, Kavita, Harishchandra, Bhagwan Singh, Mayawati, Premchand, Kishori Lal, Lakshmi, Suresh, Sushila Devi, Saraswati Devi, Ashish, Shakuntala, Sushila. The condition of five people is said to be critical and they have been referred to the trauma center in Varanasi. The rest are being treated in the district hospital.

Passenger Bimla Devi said that they had left at 11 pm after visiting Kashi Vishwanath and taking bath in Maha Kumbh. The accident happened due to the driver dozing off. Passenger Sushila said that they were going to Ayodhya for darshan after taking bath in Kumbh.

District Hospital’s Dr Krishna Kumar Pandey said that nine bodies have come from Badlapur. These include five women, three men and a child.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Kaustubh said that two accidents took place in the district within a few hours. So far nine people have lost their lives in the accident, 29 are injured. All are being treated in the hospital. The family has been informed about the incident. The injured are from Jharkhand and Delhi.
