Union cabinet approves the proposal to increase the upper limit of abortion from 20 weeks to 24

New Delhi, January 29: Now women will be able to get an abortion in 24 weeks of pregnancy. In the meeting of the Union Cabinet, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act has approved the proposal to increase the upper limit of abortion from 20 weeks to 24 weeks.

Minor girls, rape victims, unmarried women have also been included in this proposal prepared by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Now unmarried women can also get abortions. Now this bill will be introduced in Parliament.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that women have got relief from this bill. According to the Act of five decades ago, abortion was a very difficult task and abortion was allowed only until 20 weeks of pregnancy. Maternal deaths  also affected due to abortion being unsafe. But now according to the new bill, abortion will be an easy and safe procedure. Such a law is in few countries in the world and India has also joined those countries.
