UP: 31 accused get capital punishment due to effective advocacy, informs ACS Home

Lucknow, December 31: Giving this information on Friday, Additional Chief Secretary, (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi has said that under the three phases of Mission Shakti Abhiyan from October 17, 2020 to December 21, 2021, the Prosecution Department has executed a total of 31 accused through effective advocacy.

Along with this, as a result of effective advocacy in the cases going on in different districts of the state, 1087 accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

He said that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, to curb crimes related to women and girls in the state and to inculcate a sense of security in them, meaningful results of punishment to the criminals under the three phases of the state-wide Mission Shakti Abhiyan.

Awasthi said that during the period under review, 1315 accused have been successful in getting punishment of 10 years and more than 10 years and 2810 accused have been given punishment of less than 10 years. The bails of 19979 accused have been rejected. Also 503 accused were punished with fine.

Additional Director General (ADG), Prosecution Ashutosh Pandey said that as a result of effective advocacy of the Prosecution Department, from January 2020 to November 2021, a total of 1,58,864 cases of Bhadvi and 6,93,443 cases of other Acts have been sentenced.

He said that out of these, in 1619 cases of POCSO Act, 1414 cases of Gangster Act, 613 cases of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Atrocities (Prevention) Act, 503 cases of rape have been sentenced.
