Lucknow, 8 May: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has detained seven Rohingyas from Kanpur, including four women, for allegedly unlawfully entering India from Bangladesh.
An Indian ‘broker’ who reportedly assisted their unlawful entry was also apprehended, according to an official statement published here on Monday. “On May 6, the ATS team arrested seven Rohingya, including four women and one India broker, from Jhakarkati bus stop in Kanpur, acting on a tip-off that some persons had entered India from the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura with fake Indian documents,” it added.
An FIR has been filed against them under relevant provisions of the IPC and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act (knowingly entering or residing in India using a falsified passport without the authorization of law).
The broker participating in the fiasco informed the ATS that they used to transport Rohingyas from Myanmar to Bangladesh and arrange for them to remain in Rohingya camps. Later, they used to transport them to India from the borders of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, according to the report.
According to the ATS, these Rohingya were carried to Guwahati by rail from the Tripura border and then moved to West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab, and Jammu Kashmir, where their bogus credentials were made. These Rohingya are supported by family who have managed to stay in India, it said, adding that a thorough investigation is underway.
