UP: Allahabad HC urges PM Modi, ECI postponement of UP polls due to 3rd wave

Prayagraj, 23 December: The Allahabad High Court has requested the Prime Minister and Election Commissioner of India (ECI) today to protect the public from the third wave of Covid-19 in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, regarding the growing cases of the new variant of Corona in the country and abroad by gathering crowds and stopping election rallies. Political parties should be asked to campaign through TV and newspapers.

Requesting the Prime Minister, the High Court judge said that he should take strict steps to stop the election meetings and rallies of the parties. The Prime Minister should also consider postponing the election, because if there is life, then there is a world.

Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav has given this order while granting bail to accused Sanjay Yadav, who is in jail under the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act. A case is registered against Sanjay Yadav in Thana Cantt area of ​​Allahabad.

While granting the bail, the High Court said that today about four hundred cases are listed before this court. Similarly, regular cases are listed before this court, due to which more number of advocates is present and there is no social distance between them. Advocates stand close to each other. While the patients of the new variant of Corona, Omicron, are increasing and there is a possibility of a third wave.

The High Court said that according to the daily newspaper, six thousand new cases have been found and 318 people have died in 24 hours and this problem is increasing day by day. In view of this terrible epidemic, countries like China, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, and Scotland have imposed full or partial lockdown. In such a situation, the Registrar General, High Court of Allahabad is requested to make rules to deal with this dire situation.

The Court further said, at the same time, such a frightening situation is being shown in daily newspapers and Doordarshan. Whereas every day new new corona patients are increasing in new variants and the third wave is knocking. Just in the last second wave, we have seen that lakhs of people have got corona infected and people have died. The elections to the Gram Panchayat and the elections to the Bengal Legislative Assembly infected people a lot, due to which people died.

“Today polls are near to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. For which all the parties are mobilizing lakhs of people by holding rallies, meetings etc. Where it is not possible to follow the corona protocol in any way and it is not stopped in time, then the result will be much direr than the second wave,” added the Court.

In such a situation, the Court is requested to the Election Commissioner to immediately stop such rallies, meetings etc. in which the crowd gathers and order the election parties not to do their campaign and publicity by gathering crowd in the rally and meeting, but Doordarshan and Do it through newspapers and if possible postpone the elections to be held in February for a month or two. Because if there is life, then election rallies, meetings will continue to happen, and the right to life has been given to us in Article 21 of the Constitution of India.

The High Court said that the Prime Minister of our country, who has started the campaign of corona free vaccination in a country with a huge population like India, is commendable and the court praises him. And request the Prime Minister that in view of the situation of this dreadful epidemic, taking strong steps, think about stopping and postponing rallies, meetings and upcoming elections because there is life to the world.

The court has directed to send a copy of this order to the Registrar General, High Court of Allahabad and the Election Commissioner and the Central Government.
