Lucknow, June 21: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has targeted about 50,000 polling booths in Uttar Pradesh where it intends to increase its political activity in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to figures compiled by the party, the party won 1.28 lakh voting stations in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections out of about 1.75 lakh booths in the state.

Taking into consideration the 2014 LS elections, as well as the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections, the BJP won an average of 1.05 lakh voting booths. According to sources, the party has divided polling stations into three groups. The “A” category represents those booths that the party has won since 2014.

Similarly, ‘B’ and ‘C’ category booths are those where the party lost once or more despite the party’s meteoric growth under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.

With a well-planned electoral strategy in place, the party has urged its MPs, MLAs, and MLCs to begin a door-to-door campaign in the weaker polling booths.

According to reports, this is also part of an ambitious goal of winning 75 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in 2024. “‘Sampark’ (contact) and ‘Samvaad’ (interaction) are the most vital aspects of every campaign. And here is where we would be focusing our efforts “UP BJP Vice-president Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

According to sources, MP and MLAs have been directed to reach out to beneficiaries of welfare schemes.

“After all, there is a significant portion of the electorate that has shown support for the BJP,” UP BJP spokesperson Avnish Tyagi said.

While over 85 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs will conduct public outreach activities in 100 seats each, the 255 MLAs and over 70 MLCs will conduct them in 25 booths each.

According to sources, MPS, MLAs and MLCs have been encouraged to increase engagement with a variety of communities, including Dalits, MBCs, and minorities, in order to allay their fears and resolve their concerns.

The party top brass is anticipated to go into overdrive shortly after the national executive committee meeting in Hyderabad (Telangana) in the first week of July, when the saffron pantheon will set out its political resolution and prepare its political plan. This will also coincide with the appointment of a new UP BJP chief, who would assemble his own team of party functionaries.

According to sources, the selection of a new UP BJP president ? the current Swatantra Dev Singh has been made a minister in Yogi Adityanath’s government ? will put the state unit in motion, determining its electoral prospects in 2024.
