New Delhi, 24 October: Congress will not field any candidate in the by-elections to be held on 9 seats of Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Congress will support the Indi alliance in this by-election. Along with this, it will keep trying to ensure victory of the alliance candidates.

Congress’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge Avinash Pandey said in a press conference at the party headquarters on Thursday that by-elections are going to be held on 9 out of 10 seats in the state. The top leadership of Congress has decided that the party will not field its candidates in the by-elections. He said that today is not the time to save one’s organization, this is the time to protect the constitution and brotherhood, so the top leadership has decided not to field any candidate. Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai was also present on this occasion.

In fact, in the by-elections of Uttar Pradesh, Congress had demanded those two seats from SP where BJP had lost in the 2022 elections, but in exchange for these two seats, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav left Ghaziabad and Aligarh’s Khair seat for Congress. The path is not easy for the India alliance on these two seats because BJP is in a very strong position here, so Congress wanted to change two seats of its share. When the matter did not work out, Congress handed over both the seats of its share to SP.
