Auraiya, June 28: A local court in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district sentenced a youth to death on Wednesday in connection with the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in the Ayana region, according to prosecution sources.
According to prosecution sources, while sentencing Gautam Singh to death by hanging, Special Judge (POCSO Act) Manraj Singh stated that the prisoner should be hanged till death.
“The court stated that men are born from women, and the convict’s act is more heinous than that of animals,” they claimed. According to prosecution sources, the judge noticed that if females cannot walk freely in public, where can they go?
“It is said that women are considered to be the root of religion in Indian culture, and such crimes against women are not acceptable in any religion or culture,” they added.
According to prosecution sources, the court noted that in Indian tradition, girls are characterised as powerful women who produce fresh power, but the criminal destroyed her life in her childhood, thus the convict was sentenced to death. It should be mentioned that throughout the hearing, the prosecution attorney referred to the crime as the rarest of the rare and asked for the accused to be executed. It should be mentioned that the victim went missing on March 24 evening from a village in the Ayana region.
When the family members were unable to locate the girl until late at night, they contacted the police. Superintendent of Police (SP) Charu Nigam arrived in the area with other officials and personnel from several police stations and initiated a manhunt.
The victim’s corpse was discovered in a field on 25 March afternoon and early investigations suggested that she had been raped and killed. Following an inquiry, the police detained Gautam Singh, who acknowledged to the crime under questioning.
