Lucknow, 28 Dec: The Uttar Pradesh government constituted a five-member committee on Wednesday to provide quota for Other Backward Classes in urban local body elections. Justice (Retd) Ram Avtar Singh will preside over the panel.
According to a notification on the panel’s formation published by the Urban Development department, the commission term would be six months from the day of taking charge.
The commission’s formation comes a day after the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench rejected the state government’s draught notice on urban local body elections and ordered the polls to be held without reservation for the Other Backward Classes.
