UP Govt imposes ESMA for 6 months due to Covid-19 surge

Lucknow, 25 November: The Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Mukul Singhal issued an order letter on Wednesday to implement Essential Services Maintenance Act  (ESMA) in the state.

After this, no government department employees will be able to strike for the next six months.

Due to the rising cases of SARS-CoV-2- virus causing Covid-19, Additional Chief Secretary Mukul Singhal has prohibited any kind of strike or protest under sub-section 01 of Section 03 of the Uttar Pradesh Maintenance of Essential Services Act 1966. It includes all government departments within the state. Under this, departmental information has been given.

At present, the unions operating in Transport Department, Railway Department and Power Department are demonstrating on various issues. They are planning to strike in the coming days, but with the issuance of this order from today, now their intentions will be revived. This order has been issued from the governance level due to the posing threat of Covid-19.
