UP govt sanctions funds to deal with waterlogging, drainage system in municipal corp areas

Lucknow, March 03: The state government has released an amount of 750 crores to deal with waterlogging and flood-like situation in municipal corporation areas during rainy days in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the spokesperson of the state government, instructions have been issued to the Urban Development Department to pay special attention to waterlogging, modern techniques for flood prevention, improvement of drainage system and strengthening of river banks in five municipal corporation areas Lucknow, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Shahjahanpur and other municipal corporation areas.

The amount of 733 crores released recently to develop the drainage system in Lucknow, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura and Shahjahanpur will be used for the redevelopment of Kila Mohammadi Nala in Lucknow. A budget of 193.73 crores has been set for this, under which a 10.571 km long drainage system will be developed. This will provide relief to a population of 2.5 lakhs.

Lucknow’s Getapalli drain will be diverted. For this, a 4.435 km long RCC drainage line will be laid at a cost of 112.47 crores. This will benefit 5 lakh people. At the same time, Oden Drain will be constructed in Meerut. For this, a drainage system covering an area of ​​18.33 square kilometers will be developed at a cost of 156.79 crores, which will benefit 4.35 lakh people. Apart from this, Shahberi Drain will be constructed in Ghaziabad. 132.65 crores will be spent on this project, which will provide relief to 3.9 lakh people from the problem of waterlogging.

At the same time, an amount of 89.71 crores will be spent on the drainage project from Bhuteshwar to Ambakhar drain in Mathura. This project will provide relief to 75,000 people. Drainage will be improved from Roza Adda to Damh culvert in Shahjahanpur. For this, a drainage network is being developed at a cost of 47.75 crores.
