Lucknow, 29 September: Another fight of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council (UPSECC) has brought fruitful result as now, along with smart meters, ordinary meters in the form of check meters will also be installed across state for five percent of the consumers.
However, this will happen for three months. If there is any difference in its matching, then an order will be issued to replace the smart meters.
The Consumer Council had been fighting this battle for a year. Just a month ago, the Central Government had sent some officials to the homes of some consumers. After this this decision has been taken. On this issue, the Consumer Council has termed the five percent limit as low.
Based on the previous bad experience of Energy Efficiency Services Limited in Uttar Pradesh, a public interest proposal was again sent to Union Energy Secretary Pankaj Aggarwal.
He said that this limit should be increased to 25 percent in the interest of electricity consumers of Uttar Pradesh keeping in mind their satisfaction.
Electricity consumers of the state complain that the smart meter or smart prepaid meter is running too fast, due to which there was a lot of hue and cry in Uttar Pradesh in the past. The Consumer Council fought a long battle. Ultimately, once again the fight of the Consumer Council bore fruit.
Awadhesh Kumar Verma, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council and member of the State Advisory Committee, has again sent this proposal to Union Energy Secretary Pankaj Aggarwal in accordance with the order issued by the Energy Ministry.
It is written in it that in the case of Uttar Pradesh, the Union Energy Ministry should increase the limit of five percent to 25 percent. 12 lakh smart meters were installed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited in Uttar Pradesh. His experience has not been in the interest of the electricity consumers of the state.
Therefore, at least 25 percent electricity consumers have simple meters installed in their homes. In parallel to this, consumer satisfaction should be calculated by installing smart meters.
