Lucknow, October 28: Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma has taken a historic decision regarding promotion of college teachers in consultation with the Chief Minister.
He said on Thursday that the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement the system of promotion from associate professor to professor in government colleges and non-government aided colleges on the demand of teachers’ organizations keeping in mind the interests of the teachers of the colleges.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the benefit of this arrangement would be admissible to such associate professors, who fulfil the prescribed qualifications on and after the date of issue of the Government Order (GO). With this unprecedented decision, more than 4000 Associate Professors will be able to get the benefit of promotion to the post of Professor under the Career Advancement Scheme.
โWith this decision, apart from the benefit of promotion to the post of Professor, the way has been paved for the college teachers to get appointments on the basis of the post of Professor in other higher institutions,โ Sharma said.
It is noteworthy that the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, vide notification of July 18, 2018 ‘Regulations regarding minimum qualifications for the appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and other measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education,’ 2018 has been released. Para-6.4 of the University Grants Commission Regulations, 2018 provides for the Career Advancement Scheme.
It is noteworthy that on the request of teachers’ organizations by Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, many important decisions have been taken in the interest of teachers in the past.
