Lucknow, 9 July: Ahead of Eid-al-Adha, the police have reached out to the Muslim community, urging them not to butcher animals in public or anyplace other than specified areas.
Over 6,000 meetings with community leaders were organized across the state to inform people about the restriction, according to police in a statement.
“3,010 meetings of the Peace Committee at the police station level in all districts of UP, 3,407 meetings with the Imams and religious leaders of the mosques have been done jointly by the local police and administration,” Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General (Law and Order), said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The statement issued by police further requested that the community, “To preserve law and order; ensure that forbidden cattle are not sacrificed. Police have been deployed at 28,260 mosques and Idgahs where Eid prayers will be held, according to the statement. Eid-al -Adha will be observed for three days across the state and four days in the Mau district beginning July 10.
Meanwhile, the police have made extensive security precautions around the state ahead of the festival. According to authorities, a total of 2,167 locations across the state’s 1,500 Police stations have been recognized as “communally sensitive.” These police stations have been divided into 2,422 sectors for improved police management, with 1,539 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) assigned for quick action.
Magistrates and equivalent police officials, as well as an appropriate police presence, will be present in each sector, according to the statement. Police pickets have also been put up at areas deemed communal hotspots, and UP-112 vehicles have been asked to remain present in vulnerable areas and roads.
In addition to the local police, 152 companies of PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) force have been deployed throughout Uttar Pradesh. In addition, 11 Central Authorities Force companies have been sent to 11 of the state’s most sensitive areas, according to police.
The Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters district and social media units are also monitoring platforms such as Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram for incendiary statements, according to the statement.
