Lucknow/New Delhi, October 3: On the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Yogi government gifted clean drinking water from tap to more than one lakh rural families.
Uttar Pradesh created history in the country by giving tap connections to 1,07,774 poor families on this day alone. This is the second time in 20 days that UP has achieved this feat again. Many states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Rajasthan could not even cross the 10,000 mark on October 2.
However, on the day of Gandhi Jayanti, a total of 1,34,968 tap connections were provided in the country. Districts like Bulandshahr, Shahjahanpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur have contributed a lot in making Uttar Pradesh number one by providing tap connections to maximum households.
Tamil Nadu with 10,064; Andhra Pradesh 3,121; Maharashtra 2,954; West Bengal 2,159; Rajasthan 2,027; Chhattisgarh 1,517; Odisha 1,439; Karnataka 1,422; Madhya Pradesh 696, Jharkhand 627 and Uttarakhand 514 started the supply of water on Gandhi Jayanti. Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Sikkim did not have a single tap connection on Gandhi Jayanti.
In Uttar Pradesh, for the second time in 20 days, Bulandshahr topped the number one districts. A total of 7,506 rural families were given water on October 2. Pure drinking water was provided to 6,418 families in Shahjahanpur, 6,054 in Mirzapur, 5,047 in Varanasi and 4,012 in Gorakhpur by providing tap connections. After this, by giving 3,681 tap connections in Bareilly, 2,857 in Sitapur, 2,516 in Deoria, 2,356 in Meerut, 2,158 in Hardoi, 2,488 in Gonda and 2,023 in Shravasti, UP got the number for the second time across the country by giving more than one lakh tap connections in just one day.
Earlier on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17, Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department had set a record in the country by giving 1,20,821 connections in UP. Uttar Pradesh had set a target of providing 75 thousand tap connections in the state on Gandhi Jayanti. Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department have completed the work of providing water from tap to 1,07,774 poor families on the day of Gandhi Jayanti, completing the work on a war footing.
