Lucknow, 02 January: In view of the inconvenience caused to passengers due to this strike, Transport Commissioner Chandrabhushan Singh has written a letter to the District Magistrates of the state.
It is worth mentioning that various bus unions have called for a strike across Uttar Pradesh from January 1 to January 30
In the letter written by the Transport Commissioner, it has been said that the District Magistrates should hold meetings with the officials of RM, ARM and unions of his area and find a solution to the impact of the strike. The transport system of the state is greatly affected due to the strike.
In view of the strike by bus unions, the passengers of already standing buses are being sent by filling other buses. Passengers are found searching for buses to go far away at roadways bus stands. In view of the difficulties in operating buses, announcements are being made continuously at roadways bus stands.
As of January 2, 2024, transport unions in India have called for a three-day strike to protest the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The BNS is a new law that includes provisions for hit-and-run cases. The strike is protesting the new law’s strict regulations for jail time and fines.
The new law includes a 10-year jail term and a fine of Rs 7 lakh for hit-and-run cases.
Transport unions and drivers say that the new law puts them in a difficult position. If a driver stays at the scene of an accident, they could be attacked by the public. If they flee, they could face a 10-year jail sentence and a large fine.
The strike is expected to impact the distribution of diesel and petrol at fuel stations and the supply of fruit and vegetables
