Varanasi, 31 Dec: According to a police officer, three people have been detained in connection with the alleged rape of an IIT student on the Banaras Hindu University campus.

The suspects have been identified as Kunal Pandey, Anand alias Abhishek Chauhan, and Saksham Patel, according to Shivakant Mishra, in-charge of the Lanka police station.

On the night of November 1, an alleged rape happened. The complainant stated that she had left her hostel with a companion when three males on a motorbike forcibly dragged her to a corner and gagged her after separating her from her friend.

The accused then reportedly undressed the victim, filmed and photographed her. They let her leave after around 15 minutes and grabbed her phone number, according to the complaint.

An FIR has been launched at the Lanka police station on the basis of the victim’s allegation under section 354 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to insult her modesty) and the provisions of the Information Technology Act.

According to authorities, a section of gangrape was then added to the investigation.
