Lucknow, June 13: The Consumer Council is continuously pressurizing the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) on the basis of arguments for reduction in electricity tariff.

At the same time, the power companies are repeatedly postponing it. In the hearing held on Monday, the power companies said that its appeal is in the tribunal, due to which the matter should be stopped now. At the same time, the consumer council demanded contempt action against the power companies. Now hearing in this regard is to be held on June 21.

The consumer council said that merely filing a suit against a decision in a competent court is not prevented unless there is an order of stay. The regulatory commission should take a quick decision on this, so that the confidence of the consumers is maintained.

State President of Consumer Council Awadhesh Verma said that it is completely unconstitutional for the power companies to talk unilaterally in the matter of UDAY, because the decision of UDAY was between the tripartite power corporation Uttar Pradesh government and the central government. In such a situation, any decision can only be tripartite, not unilateral.

The Consumer Council has filed a petition on the calculation of about Rs.22045 crores being spent on the power companies of the electricity consumers of the state. However, reply has been sought from Power Corporation by Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission on this.

According to the Consumer Council, the power companies are being filed secretly one by one in an unconstitutional manner.

Awadhesh Kumar Verma, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council and a member of the state advisory committee, said that when the power corporation started feeling itself trapped, now different answers were being filed. Electricity companies say that a case has been filed on behalf of the power companies in the Appellate Tribunal on the whole matter.
