UP’s first case: KGMU doctors successfully perform a delivery of pregnant woman with rare disease

Lucknow, March 04: A team of doctors from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow has successfully conducted a delivery of a woman suffering from Eisenmenger syndrome, a serious heart disease. This is the first case of Uttar Pradesh to have a safe delivery in this complex disease.

According to doctors, a woman suffering from Eisenmenger syndrome has many risks of death for both mother and child during pregnancy. Therefore, a woman suffering from this disease is advised not to conceive.

In this disease, not only the heart of the mother is at risk, but the heart and development of the child are also at risk. This disease is very dangerous for any pregnant woman.

Dr Karan Kaushik of the KGMU told that the death rate in pregnancy due to this disease is more than 65 percent. In such a situation, giving any type of anesthesia is not free from danger. Heart defects in this disease can cause heart failure and sudden death.

Dr Kaushik told that this is the first case so far in Uttar Pradesh, which was conducted by the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care of the KGMU.

Patient Priyanka Pandey came to KGMU in a very unstable condition near the expected date of delivery and was diagnosed as a case of Eisenmenger syndrome. On February 18, the maternity team led by Dr nSeema and Dr Monika along with the emergency team led by Dr Tanmay Tiwari and Dr Karan Kaushik along with Junior Resident DRs carried out a safe delivery. The woman has been discharged from the hospital.
