Lucknow, 18 February: Under the Government of India scheme Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Uttar Pradesh has been sanctioned the highest grant in the country. A grant of about Rs 740 crore has been released to the state under various heads. The approval grant will be used to increase the quality of research in universities and to renovate old dilapidated buildings.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan Yojana, grants have been provided for new government model colleges in underserved areas in order to have the minimum Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) identified.
The objective of the centrally sponsored scheme is to streamline the higher education system in the state by funding higher educational institutions and providing equitable development to all higher institutions. Under the scheme, the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) is to be increased to 35 percent by the end of 2026. This grant will be used to develop infrastructure for digital education methods in Uttar Pradesh. So that various opportunities for higher education can be ensured for the socially deprived communities of the state.
The grant will be used to include women, minorities, SC-ST-OBC and special category persons in higher education in the state.

Out of 26 universities across the country identified under Multi-disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU), grants have been given to 06 universities of Uttar Pradesh. These include Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University Ayodhya, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University Bareilly, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University Gorakhpur, Bundelkhand University Jhansi, Lucknow University Lucknow, Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut, an amount of Rs 100 crore each has been given.
Similarly, out of 52 universities in the entire country identified under the strengthening of universities, grants were given to 8 universities of Uttar Pradesh. These include Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, Rs. 20 crore each, while Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Rs. 19,99,99,000, Professor Rajendra Singh ( Rajju Bhaiya) University Prayagraj was given Rs 19,99,97,000, Jannayak Chandrashekhar University Ballia was given Rs 13,38,90,000 and Siddharth University Kapilvastu was given Rs 6,53,11,262.
