Uttarakhand: Tea to be served in ‘Kulhads’ in Secretariat, CM’s residence onward

Dehradun, June 10: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday emphasized on promoting the rich and ancient handicraft ‘Kumhari Kala’ in the state and bringing them into the mainstream by making them financially strong.

During this, the Chief Minister himself after drinking tea in earthen glasses (Kulhads), asked to start giving tea in glasses made of clay in the Secretariat and Chief Minister’s residence.

In the secretariat, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting to revive the ‘Kumhari art’.

During this, the Chief Minister while directing the officers said that work should be done to promote pottery art in the state.

He said that many families are associated with the art of pottery in Uttarakhand. The objective of the ‘Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana’ of the Government of India is to revive the pottery art and bring one of the most vulnerable sections of the society to the mainstream of development by empowering the potter community socially and economically.

The Chief Minister said that the next meeting of Kumhari art would be organized in three months. The work done in the state to promote pottery art will be reviewed.

Soil of improved quality should be made available: The Chief Minister directed the officers that sufficient quantity of soil should be available to the potters for making advanced earthen tools, for this the land having such soil should be identified. Arrangements should also be made to provide free soil from the identified land to the potters as per the requirements and standards.

Tea should be given in glasses made of clay: The Chief Minister said that in order to promote potter handicraft in the state, giving tea in clay glasses should be started at the Chief Minister’s residence and secretariat. It should also be promoted on a large scale across the state. The Chief Minister and officials started it by drinking tea in earthen glasses at the Secretariat.

Build a portal to promote handicraft:

The Chief Minister said that potter’s handicraft should also be included in the Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana. The potter handicraft is also good for ecology. People should also be motivated to buy other products made by potters on Diwali festival.

Dhami suggested that a portal should be made to promote pottery handicraft. Keeping in mind the suggestions of the people associated with this science, all possible help should be given to them. People associated with handicrafts should be sent to Hunar Haats in different regions of the country. To promote the art of pottery in the state, there should also be a system of proper training of the people associated with this field.

Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, Secretary BVRC Purushottam, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Director General Industries Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Additional Secretary Anand Srivastava, Director Industries Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal and Vice President of Mati Kala Board Shobharam Prajapati were present in the meeting.
