Varanasi: Annapurna temple opens for devotees on Dhanteras

Varanasi, 10 Nov: On the festival of Kartik Krishna Trayodashi Dhanteras from Friday, the temple town is immersed in the worship of the Annapurna Devi, the Goddesses of nourishment, in Varanasi.

As soon as the sanctum sanctorum of Annapurna Mata temple, adjacent to Kashi Vishwanath temple, opened in the afternoon, a huge crowd of devotees queued up to get a glimpse of golden idol of Annapurna Devi.

Amidst tight security, Mahant Shankar Puri kept distributing prasad in the form of coins, known as khazana, among the devotees. Devotees will be able to offer prayer at Mata Annapurna temple till 11 pm. Devotees will be able to pay obeisance for the next four days till Annakoot festival.

At around four o’clock in the morning, Mahant Shankar Puri of the temple performed Mangala Aarti after offering ‘Bhog’. During this time the treasure of Mata Annapurna was also worshiped. As soon as the doors of the temple opened for the devotees today afternoon, long queue of almost one and half km was formed .

It is worth mentioning that one gets the privilege of seeing the golden idol of Mata Annapurna only four days in a year, this time the devotees get the darshan of Goddess Annapurna for five days every day, but the special golden idol is seen only four days in a year from Dhanteras festival to Annakoot. The special thing is that this time the devotees will get darshan for five days.
