Varanasi, 26 October: Before the great festival of folk worship, Dala Chhath, Assi Ghat of Varanasi will once again be seen in its old form. Three-fourth of the ghat, which has been covered with water and mud (silt), is being cleaned again.
The Municipal Corporation administration has started the work of removing silt from Gangaghat by planting poclain. Residents of the Ghats say that with this the Ganga and Assi will be restored to their former glory.
Shravan Mishra of Ganga Seva Samiti, an organization that organizes Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat, informed that we had requested Municipal Commissioner Shipu Giri regarding this.
He has started this work by paying attention to the prayers of the local people.
He told that there were 09 platforms on the old Assi Ghat, while there were 07 platforms on the new Assi Ghat. At present only 03 platforms are visible on both the ghats. All the rest have been buried in the soil for more than 10 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi used shovel for the first time at Assi Ghat
After becoming the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi started the cleanliness campaign here for the first time by using a shovel. After that, in 2016, Shanti Lal Jain and Sunbeam Bhagwanpur started this cleanliness campaign.
After him, many other organizations also worked to remove the silt accumulated on the ghat, but due to the rise in the water level of Ganga, the entire Assi Ghat could not return to its original form due to the silt.
The cleaning contractor said that compared to last year, more than 5 feet of silt has been removed so far this year. Now this work is being done more rapidly through Poclain. For this, it will be cleaned by installing 20 pumps.
He said that our effort is to reduce the distance from the Ghat to the Ganga and increase the divinity and grandeur of Assi Ghat.
