Varanasi, 08 November: In a campaign to stop pollution in the Ganga river, the Municipal Corporation issued challan to five diesel-powered motor boats. The Municipal Corporation’s campaign created panic among the sailors operating diesel motor-driven boats.
The Municipal Commissioner said on Wednesday that in order to keep the Ganga river clean and pollution free, CNG engines are being installed in diesel-powered motor boats with the help of the Government of India. In which no fee has been charged from the sailors. The Government of India has launched this scheme to highlight the importance of Kashi and to attract foreign tourists.
He told that the Municipal Corporation held regular meetings with the sailors and asked them not to operate diesel engines in Ganga. In which sailor organizations have also agreed. The Municipal Corporation has issued challan to 05 boats for operating them with diesel engines. Municipal Corporation and Water Police are making continuous efforts to ban the running of diesel engines by running a joint campaign. Apart from this, a ban is being imposed on the operation of illegal boats which are not licensed.
