Noida, 20 Sept: Two persons were detained in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, including a ‘aadhti’ (commission agent), for reportedly assaulting a vegetable vendor.
The accused paraded him nude in the market for non-payment of a Rs 3,100 debt. The action was taken after a video of the event went viral on social media, in which the 35-year-old garlic vendor is shown being forced to strip naked before being forced to leave the market.
According to Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajiv Dixit, the vendor, who took the Rs 5,600 loan for some emergency purpose about a month ago, indicated in his complaint that he operates a garlic cart and works at the Sector 88 fruits and vegetables market.
On Monday, he went to reimburse Rs 2,500 of the Rs 5,600 and told the commission agent that he would ultimately repay the remaining money, according to the vendor’s complaint from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district.
“However, the commission agent dispatched his accountant as well as two laborers to the shop. They held me inside the shop and stripped me naked before assaulting me with sticks and hurling insults at me,” the seller explained.
