New Delhi, 26 September: Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2022.
Appreciating his contribution to Indian cinema, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, in an ex-post, announced to give him the most prestigious ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award’ in the cinema world.
Congratulating her and expressing his respect for her work, the Union Minister said that she is one of the leading women of Indian cinema. Being honored with this Lifetime Achievement Award is like a “tribute” to her. This honor is being given to her at a time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Act has been passed by the Parliament.
After films, she has devoted her life to philanthropy and Has dedicated to the welfare of the society.
The Union Minister said, โWaheeda Rehman has exemplified the dedication, commitment and strength of an Indian woman who can achieve the highest levels of professional excellence through her hard work.โ
It is noteworthy that Waheeda Rehman has been appreciated by critics for her roles in Hindi films. His major films are: Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudhavin Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi.
In her career spanning over 5 decades, she has played his roles beautifully. She received the National Film Award for her role as a Kulvadhu in the film Reshma Aur Shera.
Apart from this, she is also honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards.
Dadasaheb Phalke Award is an annual award given by the Government of India. It is given to a particular person for his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. This award started from the birth centenary of Dadasaheb Phalke in the year 1870.
