Kanpur, 19 April: Even though the weather will remain changed for two-three days due to the activity of western disturbances, the scorching heat will soon wreak havoc. According to the Meteorological Department, due to climate change, heat waves are becoming more frequent, intense and deadly across the world. At the same time, abnormal temperature can have a serious impact on more than 90 percent of India.
Meteorologist Dr SN Sunil Pandey of Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agricultural Technology said on Friday that the IMD’s forecast has said that in the East and North-East barring a few parts and some parts of the north-west, most areas of India will remain hot. Maximum and minimum temperatures will remain above normal. This can cause heat related diseases in people. Agricultural production may be affected, there may be water shortage. Energy demand may increase and air quality along with ecosystems will be affected. All these are symptoms of heat wave which is likely to occur from the last days of April.
In such a situation, heat wave occurs. Meteorologist said that the period of abnormally high temperature is called heat wave. If the maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius in the plains and at least 30 degrees Celsius in the hilly areas, the IMD declares heat waves. In which there is a difference of about 4.5-6.4 degrees Celsius from the normal maximum temperature.
The IMD can also predicted a heat wave if the actual maximum temperature crosses 45 degrees Celsius. It can also declare a severe heat wave if the temperature crosses 47 degrees Celsius.
