Lucknow, 19 Aug: Akhilesh Yadav, head of the Samajwadi Party (SP), inquired on Saturday why no G20 event is being hosted in Manipur, despite claims that the northeastern state is returning to normality.
Referring to the May 4 incident in which a group of men displayed two women naked in broad view, Yadav questioned why the northeastern state would be excluded from G20 meetings when the country strives to become a developed nation.
“If the BJP wants to capitalise on these events, the party should sponsor them. Why is the government, and why are taxpayers funding it? If the government says everything is fine in Manipur, then they should hold a G20 event there,” the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister added.
‘There is no problem with such gatherings being hosted in states like Delhi or Uttar Pradesh, but Manipur is a significant issue right now,’ he adds.
Yadav also replied to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s statement at the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, where they branded the coalition ‘ghamandiya’ (full with arrogance), and referred to them as arrogant. “Those who call I.N.D.I.A. ghamandiya are arrogant in their own right.”
