Mumbai, 1 November: Ahead of India’s match against Sri Lanka in the 33rd match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah said there will be no fireworks in Mumbai.
Jay Shah said in a statement that the apex body of Indian cricket is sensitive to environmental concerns, hence they took the matter to the ICC and decided that there will be no fireworks at the Wankhede Stadium to keep a check on pollution.
He said that BCCI is committed to tackling environmental issues and will always keep the interests of fans and stakeholders at the forefront.
Shah said, “The BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. I have formally raised the matter with the ICC. There will be no fireworks display in Mumbai, which may increase pollution levels. The board is committed to dealing with environmental issues.” “We are committed to and will always focus on keeping the interests of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront.”
He further said that BCCI has acknowledged the urgent concern regarding air quality in both Mumbai and New Delhi.

India has to play its next match against Sri Lanka on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India are on top of the table in the ICC World Cup after winning all six matches played so far. Reigning champions England are at the bottom of the table.
