Lucknow, 27 Oct: Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, encouraged doctors in the state on Thursday to devote sometime in penning down research papers and getting them published, rather than limiting themselves to treating patients.

Adityanath unveiled Asia’s first ‘Pathogen Reduction Machine’ and opened the Department of Vascular Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at King George Medical University (KGMU). “Some KGMU teachers have been recognised as brilliant scientists all around the globe,” the chief minister remarked, “but there is still a lot more we can achieve.”

“When we discuss recruiting doctors from existing medical schools to teach at newly established medical colleges, the NMC (National Medical Commission) claims it has no objections, but the problem is that they have not authored a single research paper.”

The chief minister said that if we are unable to come up with research papers, there would be no progress toward patenting. “KGMU has enough of patients, but where are the study papers and publications? We must incorporate it into our everyday routine, and failure to do so will impede our advancement,? he stated.

“Make writing a habit as well. Don’t restrict yourself to only treatment. New research papers should come from KGMU, and we should present our publications on behalf of every academic member and department. All departments in this building should have some works published in foreign journals,? he stated. According to the chief minister, KGMU must evolve with the times.

“KGMU has progressed significantly. KGMU concluded its 100-year journey five years ago, which is a significant achievement for any university. Many advances in medical research have been accomplished during the last 100 years,? he stated.
