New Delhi, April 29: The unprecedented coronavirus crisis has united the South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC) countries in daunting the highly contagious pathogen by banning the international travel, enforcing strict lockdown, creating a special economic package for Covid-19, prohibited all types of religious gatherings to battle the global pandemic.
However, India took a lead by pledging USD 10 million towards Covid-19 emergency fund, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, Nepal and Afghanistan pledged USD 1 million each, Maldives USD 200,000, Bhutan USD 100,000, Bangladesh USD 1.5 million, Sri Lanka USD 5 million and Pakistan committed for USD 3 million to the fund.
Let’s take a look at number of coronavirus cases in SAARC countries
Afghanistan
So far 1828 cases have been registered in Afghanistan. The death toll from this virus has risen to 60, while 231 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
Bangladesh
So far 7103 cases have been registered in Bangladesh. The death toll from the virus has increased to 163, while 150 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
Bhutan
So far 7 cases have been registered in Bhutan. Not a single person has died in Bhutan from Corona, while 5 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
India
So far 31787 cases have been registered in India. The death toll from the virus has increased to 1008, while 7797 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
Maldives
So far, 250 cases of corona have been registered in the Maldives. Not a single person has died of this virus, while 17 people have been discharged after recovering from the hospital.
Nepal
54 cases of corona have been registered so far in Nepal. Not a single person has died of this virus, while 16 people have been discharged after recovering from the hospital.
Pakistan
So far 15289 cases of corona have been registered in Pakistan. So far 335 people have died due to this virus, while 3425 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
Sri Lanka
So far 619 cases of corona have been reported in Sri Lanka. So far 7 people have died from this virus, while 134 people have been discharged after recovering from hospital.
According to researchers at Johns Hopkins University, around 31, 16,680 people have been reported to be infected with novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) all over the world. The number of deaths from Corona has exceeded 219,253. So far 974,603 people have been discharged from the hospital after being cured from this virus.
