Gorakhpur, June 4: Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, met with party members here on Sunday as part of the governing BJP’s ‘Tiffin Pe Charcha’ campaign in advance of next year’s parliamentary elections.
The BJP used its then-prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s renowned ‘chai pe charcha’ sessions to connect with voters ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, after Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar criticised Modi’s origins as a tea vendor.
The BJP won the elections by a landslide margin, and Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for the first time on May 26, 2014. The ‘Tiffin Pe Charcha’ campaign, which means “discussion over a meal,” was started to commemorate the nine-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“On the occasion of the completion of nine years of the Modi government, a ‘tiffin pe charcha’ was organised with senior BJP workers in Gorakhpur,” Adityanath stated in a series of tweets in Hindi. “The meeting was extremely productive and positive. 328 office bearers attended this meeting. My best wishes to them,” Adityanath said.
Adityanath told the audience that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has gained significant global power. “Today, during any crisis, the world looks up to India and Prime Minister Modi with hope,” he added, praising the PM for his “visionary leadership and continuous hard work.”
“Everyone is aware of the situation prior to 2014, as well as India’s position on the global stage. But, since 2014, not just the country, but the whole globe, has witnessed the tremendous improvements brought about by Prime Minister Modi,” he stated.
“Prior to 2014, extremism in Kashmir, separatist in the northeastern states, and Naxalism were at their pinnacle, affecting 12 to 15 states. Today, as a result of the repeal of Article 370, there is a climate of peace, harmony, and development in Kashmir. People turned out in significant numbers for the panchayat elections, and the BJP received overwhelming support. What was once a fantasy is now a reality,” he added.
