Prayagraj, 2 May: In his first visit to Prayagraj since the murder of criminal-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that some people had made Prayagraj the victim of their “papachaar” (sins).

He referenced Ramcharitmanas to declare that the universe is governed by the law of karma and that everyone gets their due dessert. Adityanath made the comment while speaking at a public meeting at Press Ground in Lukerganj on the final day of campaigning for the first round of local body elections in the state.

“Karma Pradhan Vishwa Rakha. Jo jis karhi, so tas phal chakha (the world is managed by the law of karma, where one tastes the fruits of their actions),” CM Adityanath stated, adding that Tulsidas’s adage from mediaeval times was still valid today.

Meanwhile, posters in Prayagraj, including those at the rally site, greeted Adityanath as “Hindu hridaya samrat (one who rules the hearts of Hindus)”.

Adityanath alluded to the Allahabad High Court in Prayagraj, saying that the state’s 25 crore population comes to the city to seek justice, but the land itself has become a victim of injustice and crimes. The UP chief minister went on to say, “Yeh prakriti? sabka hisab barabar kar deti hai (Nature balances everything),” says the proverb. Adityanath reminded the gathering that people who used to pass over ‘tamancha’ (home-made weapons) to others were on their way out.

Surprisingly, the gathering was staged in the Lukerganj neighbourhood, where the UP government had previously acquired unlawful property from Atiq Ahmed and built residences for the needy.

Adityanath stated that house allocation would take place shortly. He warned that land encroached upon by thugs and criminals will be confiscated and used to build dwellings for the underprivileged. Adityanath promised that his government will continue to have “zero tolerance” for “crime and corruption” if the BJP won a majority in the Prayagraj civic body.
