Tragic road accident on Lakhimpur–Bahraich highway claims eight lives

Lakhimpur Kheri, May 18: At least, eight people died on the spot in a road accident on the Lakhimpur-Bahraich National Highway-730 in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning. The accident occurred due to a collision between a speeding truck and a passenger magic van.

The deceased included six men and two women. They were returning home to Nanpara in Bahraich district after working in Lakhimpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident.

The Police and administrative officials were alarmed upon receiving information about the accident, which occurred around 8 a.m. The officials, who arrived at the scene with a heavy police force, immediately transported the injured to CHC Khamaria in government ambulances. Doctors declared eight people dead, while two seriously injured are undergoing treatment.

According to police and eyewitnesses, on Monday morning, a passenger Magic van was traveling from Lakhimpur to Sisaia when a speeding truck coming from Bahraich struck it. The impact was so severe that the Magic van was shattered and caused widespread panic. Local police immediately arrived at the scene, responding to information from passersby, and with the help of local residents, rescued the trapped passengers.

According to police, all passengers on the Magic van were laborers and were returning to their native village of Nanpara (Bahraich) after finishing their work in Lakhimpur. Following the accident, all the injured and the bodies were brought to the Community Health Center (CHC) Khamaria, where doctors declared eight dead. The other two injured remain in critical condition and have been referred to the district hospital for further treatment. Police dispatched a crane to the scene, removed the vehicles from the highway, and restored traffic. Police are currently working to identify the deceased based on their belongings and mobile phones and inform their families.
