Ex-Telangana constable turned IPS trainee tries to end life amid harassment charges, critical
Hyderabad, July 20: Trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy, facing allegations of sexual harassment of a fellow trainee at the National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad, allegedly attempted suicide on Sunday night. He was taken to a private hospital in SR Nagar, Hyderabad, where his condition is reported to be critical.
This incident comes a day after reports emerged that an internal investigation committee of the NPA had prima facie found the allegations against him to be true. The NPA’s internal committee first examined CCTV footage and other evidence, which found the allegations made by the fellow trainee female officer to be true.
Following this investigation, the academy suspended Uday Krishna Reddy. The police also issued him a notice in connection with the case.
Before the alleged suicide attempt, Uday Krishna Reddy had reportedly posted a WhatsApp status on Sunday claiming he had done nothing wrong.
It is noteworthy that a 30-year-old married trainee IPS officer from Karnataka alleged in her complaint that Uday Krishna Reddy sent her obscene messages, dragged her into a room, assaulted her by her hair, attempted to strangle her, threatened her with a knife, and secretly recorded a private video of her.
She also alleged that Uday sent the video to her husband and blackmailed her. Based on this complaint, Attapur police registered a case against Uday Krishna Reddy under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
