CM Suvendu welcomes Taslima Nasrin, assures safety on return to Kolkata after 19 years
Kolkata, August 1: Renowned Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin, who arrived in Kolkata after nearly two decades, was welcomed at a poetry recitation event held at Rabindra Sadan on Saturday. On this occasion, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari assured her of complete security in the state, saying that she could visit West Bengal whenever she wished, and that it was the state government’s responsibility to ensure her safety.
Addressing the event, the Chief Minister said that West Bengal is now a state that respects the Constitution, democracy, and freedom of expression.
He said that everyone has the right to come and express their views. He added that Taslima Nasreen’s visit to West Bengal is proof that democratic values and fundamental rights are being protected in the state.
It is noteworthy that in 2007, following the publication of Taslima Nasrin’s autobiographical book, “Dwikhandito,” violent protests erupted in many parts of West Bengal. The Left Front government at the time banned the book, and the deteriorating law and order situation forced Taslima to leave West Bengal. Subsequently, even during the Trinamool Congress government, she was unable to return.
During the event, the Chief Minister stated that the era of intimidation and intimidation in West Bengal was over. He stated that he was not invited to the event, but upon learning of Taslima Nasreen’s arrival, he went to welcome her. He stated that as a writer, Taslima has a large following and admirers, and that she has personally experienced the transformed West Bengal.
In an earlier interview, Taslima Nasrin expressed her gratitude to the West Bengal government and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, stating that despite not being an Indian citizen, her safety and freedom of expression were respected. He expressed hope that the state government would protect not only his rights but also the rights of all writers, artists, women, minorities and those with different views.
