Weather department sounds alert as rain grips nation
New Delhi, August 14: The monsoon has once again become active in many states of the country. Due to the impact of a low pressure over Jharkhand and the adjacent Gangetic plains of West Bengal, very heavy rain is continuing in various parts of the country.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many states in northwest, central, eastern, and northeastern India are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the next few days. Light rain is expected in Delhi-NCR on Saturday morning and afternoon and evening. The maximum temperature will be between 32-34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be between 24-26 degrees Celsius. by the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain occurred in the capital today, providing relief from the humid heat. The maximum temperature also remained normal.
The International Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for northwest India. Widespread rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand during August 15-20. Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab are likely to experience very heavy rainfall on August 15, and western Uttar Pradesh on August 15-16.

Meanwhile, heavy rains will continue in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in Northeast India from August 15th to 20th. A warning has been issued for isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya between August 16th and 18th. Widespread rainfall is expected in the Konkan and Goa regions of western India for the next 5-6 days. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep in southern peninsular India are expected to experience heavy rainfall from August 15th to 20th.
During the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in several states across the country. These included Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar, with rainfall of 12-20 cm, and eastern Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, the Gujarat region, Uttarakhand, Konkan, central Maharashtra, western Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and eastern Madhya Pradesh.
