Maharashtra ATS arrests man with dual passports of Pakistan and India
Mumbai, September 20: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Sunday arrested a man in the Mangalgarh area of Ambernath with passports from both Pakistan and India. The ATS team is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The investigating officer (IO) stated that the arrested accused has been identified as 38-year-old Chand Ali Abdul Rashid Syed. Chand Ali obtained an Indian passport in 2009 and then fled to Pakistan. It is alleged that in Pakistan, he concealed information regarding his Indian citizenship and obtained a Pakistani passport using allegedly forged documents under the name “Chand Ali Rashid Ali.” Chand Ali subsequently entered India using the Pakistani passport and began living in Ambernath. After returning to India in 2024, he concealed his previous information and obtained an Indian passport again using his PAN card, domicile, and other documents.
The matter came to light during document verification at the Regional Passport Office. Suspicions arose regarding the individual’s citizenship and documents, leading to an investigation. The investigation revealed that he possessed both Indian and Pakistani passports. Upon receiving information, a case was registered at the Hill Line Police Station and Chand Ali was arrested. Police are now probing the accused’s length of stay in Pakistan, the documents he acquired there, and the activities he engaged in after returning to India.
Given the sensitivity of the matter, investigating agencies are trying to determine who the accused had contacts with in Pakistan and who he remained in contact with after returning to India. The manner in which the two passports were used and the involvement of any other individuals or networks in this entire matter are also being investigated.
