Gorakhpur: CM Yogi slams SP over women’s safety, recalls fearful pre‑2017 era
Gorakhpur, September 23: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath once again targeted the Samajwadi Party over women’s safety, saying that before 2017, the situation was such that “seeing an SP man made daughters fearful,” as parents worried about their daughters’ education and safety amid an atmosphere of harassment and abductions by SP goons that had jeopardized girls’ education in several districts.
Chief Minister said that there was an atmosphere of hooliganism, land grabbing, and anarchy throughout the state. Today, Uttar Pradesh is free from curfews, riots, fear, hooliganism, and illegal occupation. Since 2017, society and the government have worked in unison, yielding results.
Chief Minister Yogi was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed State Women’s Shelter near the Agriculture Department’s seed warehouse in Chargawan on Wednesday. This building, equipped with all the necessary amenities and capable of accommodating 100 women, cost ₹8 crore, 542,000.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that any daughter forced to leave her home or a victim of domestic violence will no longer have to wander from door to door. The 100-bed State Women’s Shelter in Gorakhpur will be a support for such women. Chief Minister stated that the government stands with a daughter from her birth to her education, marriage, security, and self-reliance. Under the Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana, assistance of Rs 25,000 is being provided for daughters from birth till graduation. A provision of Rs 1 lakh has been made under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme. 1.60 crore children in Basic Education Council schools are being provided with uniforms, bags, books, shoes, socks and sweaters.
He said that 1.10 crore families have been given an annual pension of Rs 12,000 and 65 lakh poor people in the state have been given houses under the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Housing Scheme.
He said that choosing good people leads to getting good facilities. The government is providing assistance of Rs 4,000 per month to children who became destitute during the Corona period. Laptops have also been provided to such children to help them in their studies.
Taking aim at the opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party, on the issue of employment, CM Yogi said, “You keep counting, we will keep distributing jobs. You will get tired of counting, but we will never tire of providing jobs to the youth of Uttar Pradesh.”
Chief Minister said that under Mission Rozgar, more than 9.5 lakh youth have been given government jobs so far. New employment opportunities are emerging in various sectors. More than 30 million people have been employed through 9.6 lakh MSME units in the state. A large number of these units are run by women. With more than 24,000 startups, the youth of Uttar Pradesh are now becoming not only job seekers but also job creators.
Yogi said that through Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, and Banking Correspondent Sakhi, women are writing a new story of self-reliance. The Nari Vandan Act has ensured women’s representation in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.
Chief Minister Yogi said that before 2017, encephalitis used to ravage children in eastern Uttar Pradesh. At BRD Medical College alone, approximately 500 children died. Due to the government’s efforts, the death toll has now reached zero.
He also mentioned the unprecedented improvements in road, rail, and air connectivity in Gorakhpur. He said that with improved road connectivity, the journey to Varanasi now takes approximately two and a half hours.
CM Yogi stated that whether it’s a victim of domestic violence, a daughter, sister, or elderly woman separated from her family for some reason, this shelter will provide support.
Referring to an elderly woman living in the shelter, he said that she is unable to speak and does not know her home address. The government supports such individuals and strives to reunite them with their legal guardians.
Chief Minister expected the Women’s Welfare Department to better manage the shelter. On this occasion, the Chief Minister, while extending his greetings on Vamana Jayanti, mentioned Lord Vishnu’s Vamana incarnation and greeted those present.
