“Train turns maternity ward as woman gives birth, medical staff take charge”
Kota, September 23: A 26-year-old woman travelling on the Mannargudi-Jodhpur Express on Wednesday gave birth to a son while in labour on the moving train. Upon receiving information through Rail Madad, the Railways kept a medical team ready at Sawai Madhopur station.
Upon reaching the station, the medical team examined the mother and newborn and provided necessary treatment and medicines. Both were found healthy.
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Jain, the female passenger, Sharda, was travelling to Jodhpur in the general class coach of the train with her husband and five-six female family members. After the train departed from Kota station at 5:35 am, she suddenly experienced labour pains. Meanwhile, a passenger informed the Kota Commercial Control Room through Rail Madad. Upon receiving the information, the Kota Commercial Control Room informed Sawai Madhopur Station Manager, Deshraj Meena. The station manager immediately alerted the medical team from the Railway Hospital and arranged for necessary medical treatment at the station.
Meanwhile, the woman gave birth to a son on the moving train. When the train arrived at Sawai Madhopur station at 6:40 a.m., a team consisting of Senior Divisional Medical Officer Dr Ramraj Meena, Women’s Health Assistant Kavita, Senior Nursing Superintendent Javed Khan, and Night Watchman Dinesh arrived at the scene.
The team conducted a medical examination of the mother and newborn, who were found to be healthy.
