Probe begins into killing of ₹30‑lakh bounty naxalite leader in Varanasi

Varanasi, October 01:  A magisterial inquiry has begun into the encounter death of Brijesh Ganjhu alias Gopal Singh Bhokta, a commander of the banned Naxalite organization The Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) carrying a bounty of ₹ 30 lakh, in the Ramnagar police station area of ​​Varanasi district in Uttar Pradesh on September 20.

On the instructions of district magistrate (DM) Satyendra Kumar, additional city magistrate (ACM) I is investigating the case.

The ACM I said on Thursday that if any person has any information, evidence or documents regarding the incident, he can appear in his court by October 24, 2026 and submit them in writing or orally. All such information and evidence obtained during the investigation will be included in the case.

It is noteworthy that on the morning of September 20, an encounter took place between the UP Special Task Force (STF) and Brijesh Ganjhu, a commander of the banned Naxalite organization TPC, in the Lanka Maidan area of ​​the Ramnagar police station.

According to the police, Brijesh Ganjhu, alias Gopal Singh Bhokta, a Naxalite commander carrying a bounty of ₹30 lakh, was killed in the encounter. During the encounter, the Naxalite opened fire. His bullets also struck the bulletproof jackets of UP ATS Deputy Superintendent of Police Vipin Rai and Head Constable Nitendra Krishna.

However, both policemen remained unharmed. Brijesh Ganjhu is said to be a resident of Loot village in the Lawalaung police station area of ​​Chatra district, Jharkhand. He was the son of the late Panju Ganjhu.
