PM Modi, Rajnath Singh and Yogi to witness Air Force spectacle in Varanasi on Sunday
Varanasi, October 24: The second day of the mega air show “Wings Over the Ganga” at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, organized to mark the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force, captivated thousands as roaring fighter jets performed breathtaking aerial maneuvers, while the Sarang helicopter team wowed spectators with a stunning tricolor formation in the sky, drawing thunderous applause and chants of “Har Har Mahadev” from crowds gathered along both banks of the Ganga.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are scheduled to attend the air show on Sunday, its final day. Preparations are underway for their arrival. Through “Wings Over the Ganga,” the Indian Air Force is showcasing its operational capabilities, modern military technology, and the indomitable courage of its air warriors. Held on the historic banks of the Ganga, this event has become both a source of excitement and national pride for the people of Kashi.
The air show began amid the roar of fighter helicopters. The Sarang helicopter team created a patriotic atmosphere by forming the tricolor in the sky. The helicopters’ precise flight and the pilots’ superb coordination mesmerized the spectators. The team’s performance was also discussed on social media.
Following this, the Sukhoi-30 MKI and Rafale fighter jets demonstrated their power and agility. The roar of the high-speed aircraft filled the entire area. The Rafale performed breathtaking stunts, diving like an eagle in the sky. The aircraft’s high speed, sudden changes of direction, and precise altitude control kept spectators gazing at the sky for long periods. Despite the scorching sun, the enthusiasm of the people gathered on the ghats was palpable.
As scheduled, a total of 100 aircraft participated in the air show. These included 52 fighter jets, 15 transport aircraft, 32 helicopters, and one historic aircraft. These aircraft flew from 12 air force bases across the country, including the naval base at Arakkonam near Chennai.
During the display, a total of 25 aircraft formations demonstrated the operational capabilities, technical proficiency, and coordination of the Indian Air Force. Fighter aircraft like the Sukhoi-30 MKI, Rafale, Jaguar, Mirage-2000, Tejas, and MiG-29 were the main attractions of the air show. Furthermore, various helicopters, including three Mi-17 V-5 helicopters, also showcased their capabilities.
Maneuverable maneuvers like low-altitude flying, sudden changes of direction, climbs and descents, and circular formations in the sky thrilled the spectators. The precise coordination between the aircraft and the pilots’ ability to control them under challenging conditions showcased the professionalism of the Indian Air Force. Formations bearing names associated with the religious and cultural identity of Kashi were also a special part of the display.
Crowds began gathering at Namo Ghat and the surrounding Ganga ghats from early morning to witness the air show up close. Spectators arrived at the ghats early in the morning to secure a better view. Extensive security arrangements were made, however, the large number of people increased traffic congestion in the city and the Rajghat area. The air show caused severe traffic jams in many areas.
