Buy one, get one ‘Udta Teer’ free: Makers fire promotional ‘Ticket Teer’ at audiences
After selling tickets for ₹99 and then rolling out a buy-one-get-one-free offer, the makers of ‘Udta Teer’ seem to be running a promotional campaign that looks more like a festive supermarket sale than a film release, raising the question of whether the real challenge is marketing the movie or simply convincing audiences to walk into theatres.
Surprisingly, the ticket price was first reduced to 99 rupees, and now the strategy of giving a second ticket free with one purchase is being adopted. This means that prices have to be constantly raised to attract audiences. The question arises: if the film has a strong story, entertainment, and engaging content, why are so many discounts necessary? Is the film failing to meet audience expectations, or is its promotion simply not having an impact? The constant discussion of ticket offers has shifted the focus from the film’s story and entertainment value to its efforts to attract audiences.
Bollywood often makes tall claims about advance bookings and initial earnings, but in the case of “Udta Teer,” the discussion has centered on the strategy of reducing ticket prices and distributing free tickets. Even after offering tickets for 99 rupees, if one ticket has to be given free with a second ticket to attract audiences, this cannot be considered an encouraging situation for the film. After all, audiences can’t be attracted to theaters solely through offers. If audiences are genuinely excited about the film, they will purchase tickets themselves and reach the theaters.
Of course, discounted tickets aren’t definitive proof of a film’s failure, but the strategy of constantly offering attractive offers for “Udta Teer” certainly raises questions about its audience appeal. It now appears that the makers are relying more on ticket prices than story and entertainment value to sell the film.
The film is titled “Udta Teer,” but the sheer number of offers being offered to attract audiences naturally raises doubts about its box office success. Now it remains to be seen whether this free ticket offer will be successful in attracting audiences to theaters, or whether the film will face apathy despite all efforts.
