Azam Khan produced in Ghaziabad PMLA court, Akhilesh Yadav alleges political vendetta
Ghaziabad, November 01: The Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, Azam Khan, was brought by a team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Ghaziabad on Sunday.
The SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has reacted sharply to this development, accusing the ruling party of acting out of political vendetta.
Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made in the court premises in view of the appearance. When journalists asked Azam Khan if he would like to say anything in this matter, he said in a disappointed and helpless tone, “What is there to say now?” Meanwhile, several Samajwadi Party leaders also reached the court premises.
Azam Khan was taken into custody by the ED as soon as he was released from Rampur jail on Saturday evening after being granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in two PAN card cases. He was produced in the PMLA court on Sunday. This case relates to an investigation into alleged financial irregularities and money laundering at Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University and the Jauhar Trust associated with it.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has already attached property worth crores of rupees belonging to the university. The agency is now seeking custody of Azam Khan for questioning. The court is currently hearing the ED’s remand application. If the court rejects the remand request, Azam Khan could be sent to judicial custody in Dasna Jail, Ghaziabad.
