Patna, November 6: Three alleged accused in the murder case of a Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) president Sanjeet Kumar were killed in a police encounter in Bihar’s Patna district on Friday morning after a fierce exchange of fire with police in the Maner police station area, during which 42 rounds were fired over nearly 20 minutes, while Maner SHO Rajneesh Kumar also sustained injuries, police said.

The Patna’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kartikeya Kumar Sharma told the media on Friday that at around 4:30 am, the Patna Special Task Force (STF) and district police received information that some criminals were planning to commit a major crime in the Sherpur area of Maner. Based on the information, a police team led by the STF and Maner SHO Rajneesh Kumar immediately reached the spot.

According to the SSP, upon seeing the police team, the criminals opened fire indiscriminately. The police returned fire. In the encounter that lasted approximately 20 minutes, the police fired 18 rounds and the criminals fired 24 rounds. During this encounter, Maner Station House Officer Rajneesh Kumar was hit in the arm. The bullet grazed his arm, injuring him.

The SSP stated that after the firing stopped, the police team proceeded cautiously and transported the three injured to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The deceased have been identified as JP Yadav, Bablu Yadav, and Suraj Kumar.

JP Yadav’s brother called the encounter a fake encounter. Ram Ashish Yadav, brother of JP Yadav, who was killed in the encounter, questioned the police action and termed it a fake encounter. He claimed that the three deceased, including his brother, were not named accused in the PACS president murder case. Ram Ashish alleged that the police took his brother’s life by acting inappropriately. He demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and action against the guilty policemen. They have also demanded that a case be filed against the police administration.

After the encounter, the three bodies were taken to Danapur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where their family members and others created a ruckus. During this, people present in the hospital premises allegedly beat up Rinku Mali. The family members of those killed in the encounter alleged that Rinku Mali had taken the three with him from their homes before the police action.
