UP govt constitutes Backward Classes Commission for reservation in Panchayat polls

Lucknow, May 21: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has constituted a five-member Backward Classes Commission for OBC reservation in the three-tier Panchayat elections. Retired Allahabad High Court judge Ram Avtar Singh has been appointed as the commission’s chairman. This commission will submit its report on reservations for the state’s Panchayat elections within six months.

In addition to the chairman, four members have been appointed to the commission. Two retired Additional District Judges and two retired IAS officers have been appointed as members. The appointments have been made for six months. The commission will submit its report to the government within six months.

The Uttar Pradesh government issued a notification in this regard late on May 20. Retired Allahabad High Court Justice Ram Avtar Singh has been appointed as the commission’s chairman. Retired Additional District Judge Brijesh Kumar and retired Additional District Judge Santosh Kumar Vishwakarma have been appointed as members. In addition, retired IAS officer Arvind Kumar Chaurasia and retired IAS officer SP Singh have been appointed members of the commission. Separate orders will be issued regarding the honorarium, allowances, and other benefits for the commission’s chairman and members.
