
Five dead, 15 injured in Unnao Expressway accident; Bihar cop, prisoner among victims
Patna/Siwan/Lucknow, May 26: At least, five people including an Inspector posted at Siwan Police Line and a prisoner died when a double-decker AC bus overturned on Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning. 15 people including three policemen were injured in the accident.
According to the police, the police team was taking Chhatrapal Singh Tomar, a prisoner accused of murder, lodged in Siwan Divisional Jail, to Gurugram Court for production. After production, the police team was returning by bus. Meanwhile, the bus went out of control and overturned on Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Unnao at around 5 am on Tuesday morning. The deceased were identified as Inspector Ramchandra Ram (59) posted at Siwan Police Line and prisoners Chhatrapal Singh Tomar, resident of Gurugram, Suresh Jaiswal of Gorakhpur, Vijesh Gupta, Vijay Kumar. A chaos was broke our at the spot after the accident. Local police and relief team took the injured to the hospital.
The Siwan Superintendent of Police (SP) Puran Kumar Jha said that the prisoner of the divisional jail was taken to a court in Gurugram for hearing. During the return journey, the inspector and the prisoner died in a bus accident in Unnao. Arrangements are being made for the treatment of other injured policemen. Unnao district administration is being contacted for better treatment of the injured.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed grief over the accident by tweeting on X. He wrote, “The death of so many people in the tragic road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao is deeply saddening. I offer my humble tributes to the departed souls and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured.”
