Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid granted interim bail to perform father’s 40th day rituals

New Delhi, May 26: The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to the Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid, an accused in the terror funding case, from June 25 to June 30 to attend the 40th day rituals after the death of his father. The bench headed by Justice Pratibha Singh ordered Engineer Rashid to surrender on June 2 as per the conditions of the interim bail granted on May 18.

Earlier, on May 18, the court had granted Engineer Rashid interim bail till June 2. Engineer Rashid’s father died on May 18 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS hospital. While ordering interim bail, the High Court had imposed strict conditions. The High Court had said that during the interim bail, two security personnel in plain clothes will always be deployed with Engineer Rashid. The two security guards will accompany Rashid from the time he leaves jail until he travels to Srinagar and returns from Srinagar to Delhi. The court stated that the interim bail order will allow Engineer Rashid to visit the cemetery and any other ritually observant funeral site.

The court also stated that during the interim bail period, Engineer Rashid’s meetings with anyone other than his family members will be limited to the presence of two security guards. The court also permitted Rashid to use only one mobile phone number, which he must provide to the investigating officer. The court also stated that Engineer Rashid will not attempt to influence any witnesses or tamper with evidence during the interim bail period.
