UP ATS arrests counterfeit currency smuggler from Bengal

Lucknow, July 04: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested an active member of a gang involved in smuggling Indian counterfeit currency notes from Malda district in West Bengal. He was carrying a reward of 25,000 rupees.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the ATS stated that for some time, information had been received that Indian counterfeit currency notes printed in Bangladesh were being smuggled through West Bengal to Uttar Pradesh and other states in India. Taking cognizance of the matter, the ATS launched an investigation and recently arrested Suleman Ansari and Idrish from Varanasi with counterfeit currency notes worth 2 lakh rupees. During interrogation, these individuals revealed that Zakir, a resident of Malda district in West Bengal, used to supply them with the Indian counterfeit currency notes printed in Bangladesh. Rafiqul, a resident of Bangladesh, used to deliver these notes to Zakir. After this, Zakir, with the help of us, used to supply these Indian counterfeit notes to various states of India including Uttar Pradesh.

On Friday, the ATS reached Malda and arrested the accused Zakir and brought him to Varanasi as per the legal process and started interrogation.

The ATS says that based on the information obtained from the accused, more information will be gathered about other members and necessary action will be taken.
